Research Director, Mozambique

Description:
PSI seeks candidates for a Research Director to be based in Maputo, Mozambique. The Research Director will be responsible for overseeing and guiding all research activities conducted by PSI/Mozambique. The Research Director will strengthen and broaden the capacity of PSI's research and marketing staff to conduct quantitative and qualitative research for purposes of evidence-based decision making. The Research Director will report to the PSI Country Representative in Mozambique.


Responsibilities:
Manage research activities and supervise personnel on the research team. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
a. Develop and implement quantitative and qualitative research
  • Support in the creation of study designs, questionnaires and sampling methodologies;
  • Supervise data collection and establish mechanisms to ensure quality during data collection and analysis;
  • Analyze data and write technical reports presenting appropriate conclusions and recommendations;
  • Disseminate study results to internal and external audiences and support colleagues in the interpretation and use of data;
  • Coordinate submission of documentation to Regional Researcher and PSI/Washington
b. M&E and Market Research
  • Develop and implement consumer studies/marketing research;
  • Develop and implement studies to verify coverage and distribution of products;
  • Coordinate pre- and post- testing of communication material;
  • Support programs in the creation of monitoring systems;
c. Supervision
  • Coordinate activities and establish efficient ways to get work done;
  • Develop systems for team management and scheduling;
  • Review study budgets and follow procurement/finance/admin rules and regulations;
  • Manage research team and provide feedback for improvement;
  • Create capacity building plans for research team members.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Relevant experience conducting quantitative and qualitative research.
  • Use of data analysis software such as: EPI-INFO, STATA, ATLAS, SPSS.
  • Fluent in oral and written Portuguese and English.
  • Excellent observational and analytical skills.
  • Experience leading teams.
  • Respect for confidentiality and ethical principles.
  • Flexibility.
  • University-level education (Masters or Bachelors) in social science, public health or other relevant area.
