In 2010 FFI secured funding from the Norwegian Government (NORAD) for a 3-year project titled “Bridging the divide; empowering grassroots institutions to inform national REDD strategy development in Liberia through REDD demonstration projects”. The project aims to support the Government of Liberia to develop a national REDD strategy that aligns with the national Poverty Reduction Strategy and Forest Sector Reform process. Our goals within this are to:
- Empower and enable government and civil society organisations to understand and engage in REDD strategy development, building from lessons learned on the ground from a pro-poor REDD demonstration project in Southern Liberia
- Disseminate lessons from FFI’s global REDD portfolio and this field component locally, nationally and internationally to inform Liberia’s view (and that of the international policy community) on a post-2012 climate change framework that includes a credible, comprehensive pro-poor approach to REDD
FFI is seeking an individual with an established international reputation in communications, education and public awareness. The successful candidate will have the strategic vision, leadership, and administrative skills to develop and implement a public education and awareness campaign on climate change and REDD+ in Liberia.
S/he will have a thorough understanding of REDD+ technical concepts and at least 3 years’ experience in environmental awareness raising, or related issues. S/he will have excellent communication skills and the demonstrable ability to engage effectively at all levels of government and civil society. S/he will have a degree or equivalent training or experience in a relevant discipline such as forest conservation, carbon science, social sciences and substantial experience in a related role.
